Fork-Lift Mystery Solved!

Postby Geo » Tue Dec 10, 2013 7:59 pm

For some time I have been trying to track down who made the Elec-Trak fork-lifts for G.E. After featuring the fork-lifts in the last issue of Lawn and Garden Tractor magazine, I got an email from a garden tractor collector who's day job for years was in fork-lift re-sales. He put me onto a company called Lee Engineering out of Pawtuckett, R.I. (Bruce Laumeister had told me a couple of years ago a company out of Rhode Island had made the lifts for them but he could not remember the name of the company...hmmm, was this it?) Lee went out of business 8 years ago and was bought by another company called Presto. I called Presto and after being transfered at least 8 times, they got me to an old timer at Presto who came over from Lee when they were bought out. Although the 1970's were before his time he verified they were indeed Lee lifts! He was delighted to see these units on my web page...it made his day!

Another Elec-trak mystery solved...check out these links....look familar?

Update... I spoke with Bruce today and mentioned the name Lee Engineering...it immediately rang a bell and he told me a great story about how he tried to buy the company. I'm saving that one for the book!
